Mexico played in the first World Cup in 1930, held in Uruguay. Mexico has appeared in 14 World Cups from 1930 through 2010. With just one knockout-stage victory to date (v Bulgaria in 1986), Mexico will perhaps look to their 2010 group win over France as proof that they can end this horrendous run of six straight last-16 exits. The 2-0 victory came courtesy of Javier Hernandez and Cuauhtemoc Blanco strikes, though it was somewhat overshadowed by Nicolas Anelka's half-time outburst aimed at coach Raymond Domenech, which subsequently saw the striker sent home.
